The Further the Environment of Learning Fund (FUEL) scholarship is "for a full-time undergraduate student in the penultimate year of study in the Department of Computer Science with good academic standing and demonstrated participation in extracurricular activities and who has submitted the best response to an essay question set by the department."
Jessica's essay spoke to her ideas on how a traditional field, in this case education, will be revolutionized by computers in 5 - 10 years.
She envisions a classroom where student desks will be a table top interface where they can write, type, draw simulate, and submit tests. The chalkboard will become a touch monitor that teachers can manipulate by writing on it, or sending images to it, and the students can write on it by using their desk interfaces.
She also anticipates the curriculum in schools being revolutionized to include Computer Science as one of the core subjects.
Computers are everywhere today and it would be wasteful not to emphasize this in the school systems.
Jessica is one of our Co-op students and Shell is a strong supporter of both our Co-op Program and our department.
