Admission Process

During the last two weeks in March, announcements will be made in most second year Computer Science courses and an Events item will be put up on the Student section of this site, indicating the date and time for the annual Co-op information sessions. Critical information regarding the application process will be presented at these sessions. Students interested in Co-op are expected to attend.

Application Forms will be available at these information sessions. They are also available in the Documents section of this site and at the Co-op Office (E2-499 EITC). All application forms must be accompanied by:

  • a recent photo
  • a preliminary resume
  • a copy of the Student History available on the web

Once Winter Term marks have been posted and 3rd year courses added, the Co-op office will print new Unofficial Student Transcripts and attach them to the applications.

Screening of all Co-op Applications is conducted by the Co-op Program staff in August. Acceptance into the program is based primarily on the Eligibility Requirements.

These factors may also be taken into consideration:

  • Previous work or volunteer experience
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enrollment in COMP 3380 (Database I) for the Fall Term. Although this is not a compulsory course, most employers look favourably upon students who will have completed it prior to their first work term.

By the beginning of September, all students who applied for Co-op will receive email notification from the Co-op Office regarding their status. Students who have been accepted will receive an invitation to an orientation meeting where complete details regarding the Co-op Program will be presented.

NOTE: Applications may also be accepted in August / September if there are still spaces available. Students are welcome to drop by the Co-op Office at any time of year to discuss their situation and perhaps determine a special start date for co-op participation.
